Mikroislemcilerin hizlarindaki, sabit disklerin de kapasitelerindeki artisa paralel olarak sabit disklerimizden giderek daha fazla yer talep eden programlar ve oyunlar, silindiklerinde bile sabit diskinizin orasinda burasinda toplami sasirtici büyüklüklere ulasan dosya yiginlari birakabiliyorlar. TreeSize; sabit diskinizi, üzerindeki her klasörün kaç MB'lik dosya içerdigini ve ne kadar disk alaninin, disk erisim birimi (cluster) boyutu yüzünden bosa gittigini gösteren küçük, hizli, son derece temiz bir arayüze sahip bir yardimci program.
TreeSize'i ilk çalistirmamda yaptigim ilk is; sürekli benim kontrolum disinda sistigini bildigim ama bilinçaltimda kalmis bir korkudan mi nedir, sürekli ne kadar yer kapladigina bakmaktan çekindigim Windows klasörünü incelemek oldu. Bir de ögrendim ki Windows 95'i ilk kurdugumda 50-60 MB yer tutan Windows klasörüm siki durun tam 203 MB olmus. Üstelik bunun sadece 126 MB'i 1000'den fazla dosya içeren System klasörü. Kötü haber bu kadarla kalsa iyi. Disk üzerinde Windows klasöründeki dosyalar yüzünden çöpe giden alan tam 33 MB. Peki bu çöpe giden alan da neyin nesi? Normalde sabit diskinizde 1 KB yer tutan bir dosya 1 KB yer harcamaz. Diskinizde kullanilan disk erisim birimlerinin boyu ne kadarsa o kadar yer harcamak zorundadir. Bu da benim 1 GB'lik C sabit diskim için 16 KB ki 15 KB'in oldugu gibi bosa harcanmasi demek. Baska bir örnek olarak 35 KB'lik bir dosyayi alalim. Bu dosya iki erisim birimini (16 x 2 = 32 KB) tam olarak kullanir; ama geri kalan 3 KB, 16 - 3 = 13 KB'lik yerin bosa gitmesine neden olur? Peki neden disk erisimlerine ihtiyaç var? Eger diskiniz üzerindeki her baytin hesabi tutulsaydi, sabit diskinizin yarisi sadece bu ise giderdi. Bu yüzden disk erisim birimlerinin boyu büyütülerek bu hesap isi için harcanan yerin azaltilmasina çalisiliyor. Eger Windows 95 OSR2/98 veya NT HPFS kullaniyorsaniz sanslisiniz. Bu isletim sistemleri eskisine göre çok daha verimli bir sekilde sabit diskinizi kullanabiliyorlar. Normalde bir erisim birimine 16 KB giden 1 GB'lik sabit diskim eger yukaridaki isletim sistemleri tarafindan formatlanmis olsaydi disk erisim birimi büyüklügü 4 KB'a düsecekti.
TreeSize seçtiginiz bir klasörün içindeki tüm klasörleri bir agaç yapisi seklinde göstererek her bir klasörün ne kadar yer kapladigini gösteriyor. Her bir klasörün yanindaki küçük çubuklarin rengine göre o klasörün listelenen toplam kaplanan alan içinde ne kadar yer tuttugunu görebiliyorsunuz. Yesil çubuklar küçük, sarilar orta, kirmizilar ise çok büyük anlamina geliyor. Eger TreeSize'i sikistirilmis bir sürücüde denerseniz harcanan ve bosa giden disk alani rakamlari yanlis olabiliyor.Bu arada isterseniz kendi disk erisim birimi büyüklügü rakamini girerek bosa giden alan miktarindaki degisimi görebiliyorsunuz ve hatta seçilen bir klasörün bir CD-ROM üzerinde ne kadar yer kaplayacagini bile görebiliyorsunuz. TreeSize, kisaca, sabit diskiniz üzerinde dönen dolaplari ortaya çikarmak için mükemmel bir araç.

TreeSize Professional is a powerful and flexible harddisk space manager for Windows 2000/XP/Vista (32 & 64 Bit). Find out which folders are the largest on your drives and recover megabytes on your disks. TreeSize Professional shows you the size, allocated and wasted space, the number of files, 3D charts, the last access date, the file owner and permissions, the NTFS compression rate and much more information for several folders or drives you choose. It also lets you search drives, entire servers or the entire network for old, big, temporary and duplicate files.

The search results can be moved, deleted or exported. The application has an intuitive Explorer-like user interface, it is fast and multithreaded and supports Unicode and scheduled scans. You can print detailed reports or export the collected data to Excel and to an HTML, XML or text file. TreeSize Professional can be started from the context menu of every folder or drive.

Changes in V5.1.2
• All lists now provide a new button in their toolbar that allows to save their contents to an Excel file.
• Added possibility to export the tree map and the file ages chart in the "Schedule TreeSize Task" dialog.
Here a new function "Save to Batch File" has also been added to the context menu of the text field containing the full command line.
• Retrieving the file version of EXE, DLL and similar binary files no longer changes their last access date.
• The context sensitive help via F1 key now also works correctly under Windows Vista.
• File Search: It is now possible to search for files whose path is longer than a certain number of characters.
This allows to find paths longer than 255 characters which make problems e.g. in the Windows Explorer.
• File Search: A selected "Since" interval on the "Date" tab of the Custom File Search is now saved for the next start and to XML files (File > Save Search Options). Previously it was only saved implicitly as lower and upper border of the date interval.
• Bugfix: The "Since" date intervals were not working as expected if the negated date filter "Not Changed", "Not Access" or "Not Created" were selected.
• Bugfix: The date picker controls of the Custom File Search did not always report the state of their integrated checkbox correctly. This could lead to files missing in the search results.
